How we treat it

Whilst friends, family members and work colleagues may desparately want to help, they often don't know how to.

Treatment will depend on the individual case. If a particular approach does not suit an individual, then another can be explored. For instance some of the treatments we may consider are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychotherapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy. Cavenagh therapists always explore the talking therapy route combined with a full nutritional assessment in order to give effective support.

The specialist will also explain the particular type of therapy they recommend with the individual, agreeing goals and establishing helpful routines. Typically, the initial course of treatment will be 10 to 12 one-to-one sessions (45 - 60 minute each) over a 3 to 4 month period. Some cases will of course require longer courses, or indeed follow-up sessions. These courses enable the individual to manage their condition and help them to focus on their present and future life.

Range of treatments

After one or more sessions with the individual, the Cavenagh specialist will recommend one of more of the following therapies:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR)
  • Exposure therapy
  • Clinical hypnotherapy
  • Group therapy
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
